Dr Silva welcomes medico-legal assessment and expert-opinion enquiries within his areas of clinical expertise. He has a particular interest in brain injury, psychological trauma and neuropsychiatric presentations, especially cases in which neurological injury or illness interacts with psychiatric symptoms.

Drawing on his experience across clinical psychology, neuropsychology, neurorehabilitation and complex mental health services, Dr Silva brings these different perspectives together to provide a balanced and clearly reasoned opinion.
Psychological & Neuropsychological Assessments
Dr Silva welcomes enquiries from solicitors, case managers and other instructing professionals regarding medico-legal assessments within his areas of expertise. These include concussion, acquired and traumatic brain injury, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), cognitive change and complex neuropsychiatric presentations, particularly where neurological and psychiatric factors interact.

His assessments take account of the full clinical context, including neurological and psychological factors, pre-existing difficulties and relevant equality, diversity and inclusion considerations, such as language, education, culture, migration and socioeconomic experience. Dr Silva is fluent in English and Portuguese and can assess in either language. Dr Silva has access to Portuguese language psychometric measures.

Depending on the instruction, the assessment may include review of records, clinical interview, collateral information and psychometric cognitive testing, culminating in an independent and clearly reasoned report. Dr Silva will consider the proposed scope and confirm whether he can assist, together with the appropriate assessment arrangements, fees and next steps.
